Melt first three ingredients together in a sauce pan. Bring to a boil then pour into a 9 by 13 inch cake pan. Place 6 bread slices on top, then dab with cream cheese and pie filling. Top with remaining bread. Now beat up the eggs, milk, salt, and vanilla. Pour over bread and bake at 350 for 35 minutes or until egg mixture is set. Cut into squares and if desired invert onto a serving tray or another cake pan.
