Amish In The News Express: Ohio Amish Country Travel Guide, Emma's Summer Cake, and Amish (former) Martial Arts Expert

Here are a few Amish-themed stories making headlines this week.

MIXED MARTIAL ARTS CHAMP:  This was an interesting story for several reasons.  One, simply the guys' last name: Lee.  Now I will not profess to know every Amish surname out there. But I have heard of most and the last name Lee as an Amish one is completely new to me. So that in itself is interesting.   Second is just the description of his Amish upbringing, does not sound very pleasant and I'd almost go so far as to say it simply doesn't ring true to me, BUT, I've heard about some Amish communities in Missouri that seem very strict, very "backward."  And I've heard from enough people that it makes me think there are some communities that are very cloistered and strict in Missouri.  Click here to read this very interesting story.

OHIO AMISH COUNTRY:  I didn't really learn anything new from this piece, but if you're looking for a quick, succinct read detailing where to go and what to see in Ohio's Amish Country, this is a worthwhile article.  Click here to read.

EMMA'S SUMMER CAKE:  This recipe fooled me.  It sure sounded Amish: Emma's Summer Cake.  So when I saw it on my news ticker, I was intrigued and immediately planned to share it with you.  But it isn't Amish at all.  It's a recipe from a Canadian cook for a nice summer cake.  The cake sounded so delicious that even though it isn't Amish, I thought I'd share it.  Click here for Emma's Summer Cake.
