I don't know about you, but serenity equals sanity these days. And since few of us can get out these days, I thought I'd bring the "out" in....I have some Amish country photos that take me to times of summer solace, autumn contemplation, and winter wonder. I've experience so much of Amish and Mennonite culture over the years, yet sometimes it all seems so far away, so distant in the rear-view memory of my life, so pulling out and posting favorite photos keeps that time of my life alive. Enjoy the journey below with me!
I took this photo on a rainy day in Berne, Indiana, I just like the way it captures mother and son huddled together on a rainy day.
The open buggies of Berne, Indiana, I see this photo and I just shiver.
Yes, these Amish doughnuts were as good as they look...found these in a tiny hole-in-the-wall bakery in New York.
An Amish girl stirs a campfire stew with the Mission Mountains looming in the background. Just seems like such a carefree photo.
This is a scene I captured of an Amish man riding a hay baler in Daviess County a few years ago....similar scenes play out in the county every day during summer
Raw milk is a staple of the diet for Amish in Maine, it is legal here.
Simple Maine meal, this really was a wonderful lunch on a warm summer day in Maine in an Amish home.
A favorite summer scene from Flat Rock's Amish community....a young Amish boy pauses on a hot, humid day
Gloria, Julia, and her mother in Flat Rock
An Amish home outside Beeville, Texas....
