Friday Favorites: Mennonite in a Bra, Mennonite Fruit Dessert, Salt-Rising Bread, Manhattan and More!

Today is Friday so that means we take a stroll down memory lane and enjoy some past posts.

MENNONITE IN A BRA:  This post generated a lot of traffic several years ago.  I've re-read it and still basically feel the same way.  There's nothing inherently distasteful about the photo, but it lacks context.  I'd never take a photo of an Amish in his underwear and post it, even with permission.  It just seems invasive of someone's zone of privacy. I don't know, maybe I'm just too prudish in that way.  Most Amish and Mennonites, by the way, buy their underwear either at the local Walmart or the local Amish sundry shop.  I'm not saying that there aren't some Amish that make their own underwear, but it is rare.  Click here to see the Mennonite in the bra and the rest of the collection.

    Mennonite Fruit Dessert

    Mennonite Fruit Dessert

MENNONITE FRUIT DESSERT:  I love, love, love this recipe! My mother made the version pictured here for some family event a year or so ago.  While I wouldn't exactly call it healthy, it is nice to eat something healthier for dessert.  This recipe has enough fresh fruit to fit the bill.  Yum.   Click here for the recipe.

MENNONITES TAKE MANHATTAN: A fun article about New York City young Mennonite "crash pad", click here to read.

SALT-RISING BREAD:  This is a recipe that we get requests for a lot, so I'm happy to repost it here.  If you are looking for tasty alternative to traditional yeast breads, you'll want to try this.  Yum.  This is bread I got at a small Mennonite bakery in Kentucky a couple of years ago and made some BLTs with it.  Click here to read more and get the recipe!

MENNONITE BARBECUE GUY:  I know barbecue season is winding down, but this is still an interesting interview with  a skilled Mennonite grillmaster. Click here for the interview.
