The title of this entry sounds like all the German Baptists are old. But, no, there are German Baptists of all ages that will attend the conference:) The title refers to the “Old German Baptist Brethren” a plain religious movement that resembles the Amish in dress and attitude, but originates from a different set of theological values. Whereas the Amish, Mennonites, and Hutterites originate from the Anabaptist movement, the German Baptist church has its roots in a more recent religious movement known as Pietism. The German Baptists gather once a year for a conference that is a combination of fellowship and determining church direction. Thousands of GBs show up for the conference which rotates locations each year. This year the conference will be held in one of Virginia’s GB settlements. I’d love to attend one of these gatherings sometime. But this is an excellent newspaper article detailing the massive logistical considerations and preparations that go into preparing for the annual conference. Click here to read it.
