I did a post this morning about the German Baptist annual meetings and there was one interesting itemĀ from the conference I attended in June that I didn't write about. How to find lodging for thousands of out-of-town attendees? Yes, there are always hotels. But the conference is about fellowship and church unity so having a bunch of people staying in Motel 6 doesn't really add to that. Ā So what the church does is set up a "name board" at a hotel front-desk type setting. Ā German Baptist families from the conference area volunteer to make X amount of beds available and their name is put up on the lodging board. Ā There are homes that will take whole families (those spots get taken up the fastest), while often other homes will only have room for several boarders, so often families are split up, but its still all fun. Ā Like one big combination family-gathering/sleep-over/revival. Ā These are photos of the lodging board. Ā You just walk up to the desk, state what kind of accomodations you need and they'll match you with an available vacancy. I dislike cliches, but it runs like the proverbial well-oiled machine!

this was something I had wondered about. personally, I am always amazed at the costs of a room with a bed and bathroom facilities. and the sizes of their families at those prices would be a major challenge or I would think so. guess I should have known with their efficiencies they would have such a system.
