Hamburgers are as American as apple pie, hot dogs, Chevrolet, and baseball. And among the old Order Amish, hamburgers are just as loved as they are among every other population of the USA. And with the spring and summer picnic season coming up before you know it, I thought this would be an especially good time to share this recipe for World Famous Hamburgers.
Among the Amish, spring and summer holidays are usually designed to take off work, go fishing and grill out with the family. And what better way to do that than with some of the juiciest burgers imaginable?
Of course, there are so many different ways to make hamburgers. I have written before about how the best burgers I’ve ever tasted were my grandmother's. She would take a lot of care in selecting the best ground beef. As good as you could get from the supermarket. And then she would cook them on a stovetop griddle. I wish I would’ve gotten that griddle when she passed away,I don’t know where it ever ended up. Anyway, she would cook the burgers super thin, add some onions and I think some onion salt and that would be about it. They were very simple but, oh, so good.
Anyway, there are a gazillion ways to fix a great hamburger. This recipe for super world-famous burgers comes to us from the Amish Cook and, wow, these are the opposite of my grandmother's burgers...these are all dressed up, with a delicious sauce and, wow, yes, you won’t go wrong with these.
So, let's get started. I mean, most Amish cooks have access to their own home-butchered ground beef so you don't get much fresher than that. So start with the most amazing ground beef you can get your hands on.
These burgers have a lot of different things mixed in for flavor including oats, onion, egg, and more.
After you have everything all mixed up, then you start to work on the sauce. These burgers should firm up nicely into patties.
A nice touch is to stick the buns in the oven and get them good and toasted.
You can do these on an outdoor grill on an indoor electric grill.
Give the burgers a good basting.
And now look at these beauties, put them on the bun and serve. Man, these go great during the summer with a side of corn on the cob or, perhaps, nice, cold potato salad. Enjoy!
Add some cheese of your choice for cheeseburgers.
This recipe calls for Liquid Smoke. The Amish Cook and her family use this a lot for grilling out and other meat dishes. You absolutely can make this without liquid smoke, adding it just gives it a bit more of a wood-fired grill taste. You can order some from our affiliate link here. You might want to order a bottle simply because that ingredient shows up a lot on Amish365 meat recipes.

I don’t know how your column came up on my phone, but I am very happy that it did! I think I used to read work from Elizabeth Cablentz (spelling) and yourself a long time ago in the Hammond Times. Your little girl had just been born and you were so happy. Now I see you have a second daughter. Congratulations! I enjoy your writing style and your topic following the Amish people. I am so glad to read your work again! Thank you!

Hello, Kevin--
I feel so bad for Andrew and family. How horrible that their lives should be disrupted by the whim of an egotistical maniac trying to return Russia to its former greatness(?) Love and prayer to the people of Ukraine. May God help you in your time of need.

Thanks, Linda, Putin is definitely a maniac.....God help Ukraine....
