Okay, this has nothing to do with the Amish but sometimes it is fun to mix it up a bit.
My nieces and I have been having a bit of a good-natured music feud. I love music, but my tastes - admittedly - are stuck back in the 1960s and 70s. Bands and singers like Abba, Donna Summer, the Monkees, Styx, America, and Kansas top my lists of favorites. Perhaps at the the top of my list: the Bee Gees. Their sound captured the soul of the 70s. While the economy was tanking, oil prices were climbing into the nosebleed range, and the nation was recovering from Watergate and Kent State, the Bee Gees escapist sound provided a soothing balm.
Fast-forward to today and I often find myself writing with the Bee Gees singing in the background on YouTube. But that doesn't square well with my 12-year-old and 10-year-old nieces (when did they get that old??) who have become for some reason huge Queen fans (Queen, really?? I thought today's kids were more Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, and Pink, but shows what I know!) SIGH, what music will my soon to be 6-month old daughter listen to someday? Queen, while definitely talented and enshrined in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, just doesn't rise to the level of the Bee Gees, in my humble opinion.
Photos: my nieces with me in one of my favorite places: Country Crust Mennonite Bakery in Bainbridge, Ohio. And daughter Aster, who gets to hear me play my favorites. I think she's become a Donna Summer fan. Okay, so who do you like best? Queen or Bee Gees, cast your vote!:)

If choosing between the two I would choose the Bee Gee's. I do like a few Queen songs but like more of the Bee Gee's. My husband definitely would choose Queen, though. He does not like the Bee Gee's at all. When I choose music it is usually a very strange mixture. Garth Brooks, Eagles, Hank Jr, Reba, Steppenwolf, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jackson Brown, Survivor, Bangles, Rick Springfield, Beach Boys, Johnny Cash and June, The Dirty Guv'nah's, Lynyrd Skynyrd (old group),Marshall Tucker, Laura Branigan, Bryan Adams, Otis Redding, Kenny Rogers, Loretta Lynn, John Schneider and even a little Janis Joplin thrown in for good measure. There are lots of others as well so I have a huge variety of selections and a huge number of influences on my taste in music. It's fun to discuss something like this sometimes.
