Broomstick cookies are not, as the name would make you think, intended to be a Halloween cookie. There are cookies out there called "broomstick cookies" that have a Halloween bent, but the Amish version of this classic is just because the cookies are rolled out like broomsticks. A Halloween connotation isn't intended at all.
BettyÍs Amish Country Bakery is one of the Amish businesses that dot the back roads off I-69 in southern Michigan. It is located at 1003 Herricksville Road, off the Jonesville Road exit and they do have Broomstick Cookies there often!
Sometimes you can score these cookies in an Amish bakery, but they are tough to find. I found the recipe deep in my archives from about 10 years ago and thought I would share them here. Enjoy!
