SCHLOTZSKY'S DELI: This is off topic, but the other day Rachel was working late at her job as a vet tech, so I thought I'd take Aster out for dinner. Just her and me, a nice father-daughter outing. I wasn't looking for anyplace gourmet (not that that would even be an option in my hometown which is pretty much a chain restaurant wasteland), just something nice and quick and not terribly unhealthy. So I settled on Scholtzsky's Deli, a sandwich and pizza chain. Not sure if it is a national chain or just a regional place. Most of the time when Rachel and I have supper, whether it is at home or out, we just share our food with Aster. But I thought it'd be fun to order off the kid's menu and I saw the "cheese pizza" there, thinking I'd get maybe a saucer-sized "mini pizza". She's her father's daughter in the fact that she loves pizza. So I ordered it. Imagine my surprise when she receives this gargantuan pie that probably could feed a family of four. That's the kids pizza? I thought for sure maybe they made a mistake (there was no one else in the restaurant and I ordered a sandwich for me and told the cashier I wanted the "kids pizza")....They later told me that that was, indeed, their kids pizza. I didn't bother asking what their adult pizza looked like, I don't think I want to know!

Well looks like Aster ready to dig right in. She is so cute. Did you take par of the pizza home. Looks pretty good.

What a huge pizza for a child. I was surprised to hear Rachel is a vet tech. My daughter taught vet tech classes at a college. Again Thank you for all your hard work Keven . You make my day.
Kevin
Thanks so much, Carolyn!

Hi Kevin: Just read today's column yes, you'll find Schlozsky's deli all over the country. I was born & raised in a suburb of Cincinnati, my late husband was too. He worked for GE in Evendale, ended up living in many states where we first had lunch at Schlotzsky's. I now live in Mn. where their are Schlotskys & a good size Amish population, looking forward to the big auction in May. I enjoy your column, the Picts of Aster. Good luck with the weight loss it's not easy. I've been there.
Kevin
Where is the auction, Gerri?

Wow that "kid" pizza is unbelievable! No wonder U.S.A. is a nation of obese people. Just want to let you know that I enjoy reading your Amish blog. I especially like the recipes. Also I know how hard it is trying to lose weight so keep on moving and losing!
Kevin
Thank you, Alva!
Pam
Wow! And they wonder why kids are over weight!

Speaking of food....I tried the wonderful chili recipe that you posted...the one made with pizza sauce and salsa, and it was absolutely delicious. I will be making it again and again!. I cut the recipe in half since there are only two of us, but it still made lots!!!

Kevin you are doing a great job with keeping us informed and entertained. I enjoy seeing pictures of and ready about your family.
That is the largest kids pizza I have ever seen but Aster looks willing to dig into it. Have a wonderful weekend & enjoy your family, do something fun. Forget about sending emails this weekend and enjoy it.

Schlotzsky's is here in Alabama as well! Good luck with the weight loss, It's a struggle so many of us deal with. You will find it a one step forward, two steps back process sometimes. You'll get there! Good luck with that and your future. I hope you always keep the posts coming, I've enjoyed reading them.
Kevin
Thank you for the kind words, Dee!!
