Social Media Monday: Knaus Berry Farm and Cover's Apple Ranch

Social media and the Plain people are still two entities that have an uneasy relationship.  There are plenty of Amish teenagers on Facebook and some Amish businesses have gingerly dipped their toes in the water. It's those Plain businesses primarily that we'll be featuring in the weeks ahead.  Often those businesses will have a non-Amish employee doing the postings, but not always.    I enjoy "liking" those pages and seeing their updates.  The German Baptist Brethren are more comfortable in the world of social media, especially the New Conference.

In two opposite corners of the country are German Baptists businesses that bring a slice of simplicity to areas generally not thought of as Anabaptist havens.   I have never been to either of these businesses but would love to visit them!  I actually have been in the area of Knaus Berry Farm but didn't know about it at the time (some 10 years ago) or I would have gone.  Any of our readers been to either of these places?

COVER'S APPLE RANCH:  Our Plain Kansas columnist, Rosanna Bauman, is familiar with this place.  She knows the owners.  This Plain enclave high in the foothills of the Sierra Madre is one of the hubs of German Baptist culture in California.  Apple season is their claim to fame, but they have a bakery, farm, and deli all rolled into one.  Click here to check out their Facebook page.

KNAUS BERRY FARM:  The Knauses have been fixtures in south Floria serving up homemade milkshakes, selling locally grown produce, and pies for over 50 years.  Their key lime pie and guava pie are their claims to fame.  Yum  Click here to check out their Facebook page.   There's an interesting little video on YouTube that shows some serene scenes from the farm here.

And speaking of social media, remember, Amish365 is on Pinterest, check us out here!
