    St. Ignatius Scene

    Published: Dec 18, 2012 · Updated: Feb 2, 2021 by Kevin Williams | 3 Comments

Just thought I'd share a strikingly beautiful image from the Amish settlement outside of St. Ignatius, Montana. This is a New Order community and unlike others they do worship in a church building as opposed to homes. This is a buggy headed for a Sunday evening potluck and singing to be held at the church. As the yellow sign indicates, the complex also includes the Amish school. You can catch a glimpse of someone riding a bicycle approaching also. Bicycles are used frequently by the Amish here and are handy for traveling the relatively flat terrain that is the valley floor.  Dramatically rising behind the church are the Mission Mountains, home to plenty of huckleberry patches and rare grizzly bears. St. Ignatius is unique among Amish settlements because it is located on the tribal lands of the Flathead Indian Reservation.

This looks and sounds like an interesting settlement. I live in southwest Idaho and would like to visit this area and Rexford as well. I understand the area is somewhat difficult to get to. Thank you for posting, Kevin!

Greg, both settlements are interesting...Rexford is by far the more difficult to get to, email me sometime if you are going to go and I can give you some pointers as to when, where, etc

Thank you Kevin! I will do that. I plan on going sometime this next summer. I also understand there is a new settlement in Idaho, although I am not entirely sure where.
