Super Amish in the News: Amish Honey Wheat Bread, Homemade Pimento, Hutterites, and More!

We have a diverse package of stories in this week's romp through the blogosphere, so let's get right to it!

AMISH MAN FOUND:  Mental health is a serious issue and I am glad this Amish gentleman was found and can hopefully continue receiving the treatment he needs.  The only thing that had me scratching my head a bit is the news story's mention that the Amish man is from Clarksdale, Mississippi.   As far as I know the only Amish presence in Mississippi is near Pontotoc in the far NE part of the state.  So if we have any readers in the Clarksdale area of Mississippi, do you know of an Amish presence?  That would be news to me....anyway, click here to read the piece.

AMISH POPULATION GROWING:  A good article in the Sharon, Pennsylvania newspaper explains why.

VISIT TO A HUTTERITE COLONY:  Newbies here know that visiting a Hutterite colony is on my "bucket list"....in terms of public visibility the Hutterites are perhaps the least best known of the three main Anabaptist groups: Amish, Mennonites, and Hutterites.  The Hutterites speak German and dress plainly, but - unlike the Amish - they live communally.   This was a brief, but pretty good, article on the CTV about the Hutterites, I learned some things about the structure of the colony.

HOMEMADE PIMENTO CHEESE SPREAD (Use some creamy Amish-made Cheddar in this):  For a small paper, the Maysville Independent-Ledger has a first-rate food writer in Babz Goldman, check out the homemade pimento recipe here.

There are several Amish columnists that write for various newspapers in various parts of the country. Arlene Schmidt is an Old Order Amish woman who writes a twice-monthly column for the New Castle, Indiana newspaper.  Her writing is a superb example of the Swiss style out of Berne, Indiana.
