Homemade Sourdough Biscuits from Home Joys
By Kevin Williams
Time to buckle up and prepare for our weekly whirl through the blogosphere in search of everything and anything Plain. So click your seatbelt, buckle up, and enjoy this week's ride which includes some of our favorite stops and a new one or two....so without further delay, here we go!
SOURDOUGH BISCUITS: Gina is a talented Mennonite blogger in Pennsylvania and this week she shares her recipe for homemade sourdough biscuits. Yum. Click here for her recipe and some great photos!
AN AMISH "FIXER-UPPER": I love this post on Tom the Backroads Traveller's site (SIGH, someday I am going to do what he does: explore the backroads...well, I sort of do that now)...an Amish family moved to this run-down property outside of Dansville, New York with plans to fix it up. The Amish Cook column used to appear in the Dansville paper before being cut loose a few years ago, they should have kept it because the Amish presence in that area has really grown. Anyway, click here to see Tom's post.
BRUCE STAMBAUGH: I'm a big fan of Bruce's writing and he'll be exiting Ohio's Amish Country for Virginia soon, but this week he talks about how the seasons can mirror moods. And I agree with him. Seasons inherently mean transition and depending where you are in your life that can bring some apprehension, whether full blown anxiety or just mild angst. Click here to read Bruce's latest.
AMISH APPLE PUFFS: The Amish Side of Me does "Apple Puffs" this week, check it out here.
AMISH CORNMEAL MUFFINS: Iowa Sue serves up Amish Cornmeal Muffins this week. Check out the recipe here.
PEARISBURG, VIRGINIA AMISH: I have been to this community before and blogged about it, it is a fascinating settlement that incorporates elements of Hutterite communal living and blends it with some of the more traditional trappings of Amish life. Click here for a post from Erik Wesner this week about the settlement.
