Okay, here we go again, time for our weekly whirl through the blogosphere in search of anything and everything Plain. We have some real gems this week. I'm ladling a heavy gravy of Holmes County today, but today's Blogroll will tie into some other posts I'll have this week.
HOMEMADE HERB DIPPING OIL: Who can resist the taste of a piece of crust bread sopped in a delicious dipping oil? A couple of chain Italian type restaurants serve a basket of bread with dipping oil and I'm in heaven. But you can make your own and Gina, a talented Mennonite blogger at the Home Joys blog has a great sounding recipe right here!
AMISH TOUR OF WISCONSIN: Tom Nye from the Amish Horses blog captured a slice of Amish Wisconsin in its autumn splendor. Click here to enjoy the photos.
Gloria's Peach Crumble
EDITOR'S PICK - GLORIA'S CRUMBLE DESSERT: The way to earn the "editor's pick" spot on Blogroll? Why recreate one of the Amish Cook's recipes, of course!:) Patricia at the Patchwork Quilt blog did just that and I'm grateful because this was a recipe that I thought looked appealing. Click here to see a wonderful step-by-step photo and text package of how to make one of The Amish Cook's recipe recents, crumble dessert.
TWO BRUCE STAMBAUGH POSTS
I've found my transition into "middle age" a lot more difficult than I anticipated. There's so much I wanted to have accomplished by now and I don't, so I either have to dial down my life goals or work more intensely with one eye on the sandglass of life. I find Bruce Stambaugh's writing very comforting because he, in many ways, is where/who I want to be 20 years from now: active, engaged, writing, plugged into Amish country, still discovering newness. Anyway, that is what I get from his writing.
BRUCE STAMBAUGH - AUTUMN IN AMISH COUNTRY - This entry from Bruce Stambaugh expands upon the thought of autumn being a time of transition metaphorically for everyone.
BRUCE STAMBAUGH - PHOTO OF THE WEEK - Gorgeous photo from Holmes County's Amish Country.
MORE FROM LOWVILLE, NEW YORK: More photos from Tom the Backroads Traveller of Amish farms around the town of Lowville, New York.
HOLMES COUNTY COLLECTION: Whoa! Photographer Cynthia Baldauf posted a stunning collection of photos from Ohio's Amish Country. Honestly, it's one of the best Amish photo collections I've seen posted in a single spot. The only "bad thing" about the photos is there really isn't much context provided as to when they were shot, where they were shot, or what some of the images are. But it doesn't really matter because the photos are so captivating. There have to be 50 - 75 pictures in the collection, it took me 20 minutes to flip through them all and I was going fast. I recognize a lot of the places and I was surprised at some of the posing pictures she got of Amish people. My guess is that these are New Order Amish or some other group of Plain people (like the Lobelville group), but even among them actual pose shots are quite uncommon. So, again, some fascinating viewing here. Click to here see all the photos.
AMISH SIDE OF ME'S SUGAR COOKIES (BUTTER CREMES): I'm always interested to see new postings on The Amish Side of Me blog, this week she has a yummy sounding recipe for homemade sugar cookies, click here for the recipe.
