Who came up with this Throwback Thursday stuff anyway? Does it mean I have post pictures of myself from that bygone era (otherwise known as "youth")? I think maybe I'll just stick with throwback recipes! Ah, this was me as a sunny senior at Middletown High School in Ohio getting ready to graduate in 1990.
It does hearken back to a more carefree time. I was still over a year away from first meeting Elizabeth Coblentz and creating The Amish Cook column. When this photo was taken I still had my sights set on studying journalism in college. The Amish had just begun to interest me, as I had completed a research paper on them in my junior year.
But journalism was my focus. I was about to start a summer internship with my hometown paper and that would get me even more interested in journalism. I would spend my soon-to-begin summer scratching out stories and savoring every moment. But That would change.
Eventually I switched to a philosophy major, which comes in very handy these days when philosophize bout why I switched majors. Oh well, there you have it. My "throwback Thursday." I guess other takeaway from that senior portrait is: 1) cheesy laser-like backgrounds must have been popular in the late 80s/early 90s. 2) I always did like that sweater, it survived well into my 20s, and 3) not crazy about that haircut.
