Trending Recipes, 2-12-2022: Sausage Pie, 3-Ingredient Cherry Dump Cake, Gooey Caramel Cinnamon Rolls.....

    Published: Feb 12, 2022 · Updated: Apr 29, 2022 by Kevin Williams | 4 Comments

It is February and that means that comfort foods rule the roost on Amish365.com . During the winter months, people seem to seek out nourishing comfort fare that stays with and warms them on

    🍳 Trending Breakfasts

    Amish Caramel Cinnamon Rolls

German Coffeecake: A classic coffeecake concoction, perfected and passed down through German generations! Click here for the recipe.

Oven-Baked French Toast: This French toast recipe is super. Here is a bit about this recipe:

The real star of the show is the caramel-like mixture on the bottom of the pan. Good stuff. Heat the butter, sugar, and syrup on low and resist the urge to turn it up to medium, or you'll have a scorched, sticky pan to clean. Low works perfect. This recipe calls for 12 slices of bread, but our bread slices were pretty large. So we ended up using 8 - 9 slices, just fill the pan in double-deck fashion. We really enjoyed this recipe!

    🍲 Trending Suppers

Old-Fashioned Sausage Pie: Sausage is a prized pork product among most Amish cooks.  You generally won't see Amish shoppers grabbing a package of bulk Bob Evans sausage at the supermarket. Most Amish cooks have their own ready supply of home-sourced sausage, either from their own home-raised hogs or from friends and family.  Sausage-making can be a messy job,but the end result is wonderfully flavored meat that soothes and fills. Click here for the recipe.

Amish Chicken With Easy Gravy: This is a delicious comfort food favorite. Click here.

Skillet Cheeseburger Casserole: I could run skillet recipes like this for a year and still not run out, Amish kitchens are full of wonderful recipes that you can make in a single skillet.  Cast-iron and stainless steel pots are stock and trade in the average Amish kitchen. Click here for the recipe.

Amish Biscuit Meatloaf: This is a classic favorite. Check out this supper here.

    🎂 Trending Desserts

Jonas Coblentz Cinnamon Cream Pie: Anyway, this Amish cinnamon cream pie is a really nice, creamy, flavorful pie. This would be known as a "desperation dessert", many Amish found themselves stretched very thin during the Great Depression years and other lean times, but inventive Amish bakers and cooks still found ways to soothe a sweet tooth. Click here for the recipe.

3-Ingredient Cherry Dump: Amish Cherry Dump Cake is one of these recipes that you can't really go wrong with.  It checks all the boxes as far as I am concerned:  boxed cake mix, cherry pie filling, butter, and it's quick.   Now I'd probably have used a can of blueberry pie filling if it had been up to me.  We made this Cherry Dump Cake over a campfire at a recent gathering, but you can make it at home in your oven just as easily. Check out how to grill a Cherry Dump cake -- well kind of! Click here for the recipe.

A phone shed in a distant snow-covered field. This is at the home of a German Baptist Brethren.
I love this phone because of its pure ingenuity and resourcefulness. The stove puts off a lot of heat, why not use the heat? So they built a "drying rack" above to put boots, shoes, socks etc on that get wet from the snow so they'll dry quickly up there. Some of those towels seem a little too close to the burners for my taste.
A cozy woodstove keeps an Amish store toasty in winter...

Kevin, just wanted you to know that the entire state of Louisiana is pulling for your Cincinnati Bengals tomorrow! Joe Burrow took our LSU Tigers team to the college championship game in 2019, and won the Heisman Trophy. Now as your quarterback, he has taken the Bengals to the Super Bowl. We are so thrilled down here that your team is getting a chance at this big game. We are all “Bengals crazy” down here, and the bakeries are turning out “Bengal King Cakes” at a great rate for our parties, both for Carnival and the Super Bowl. Good luck to Joe and the Bengals!
