We have a hodgepodge of recipes as we head down the homestretch of summer. These are recipes that are trending this week, this year, leading the way in Google searches to Amish365.com Check out these good ones!
End-of-Summer-Macaroni Salad: SIGH, too soon for this to be trending, we still have a month left! A bit about this recipe: Macaroni salads are staples of summer. In Amish kitchens, there are few things that say summer more than a macaroni salad with a hint of crunch from some freshly grown celery or onion chopped in. This recipe, which I enjoyed at a picnic over the weekend, takes the crunch concept up a notch or two. As the name of the salad implies, you can use anything from your garden to mix in with this salad and the amounts listed below are approximations. If you like carrots, you can increase the amount, or if you are like me and don't care for them much, you can reduce the amounts.
Amish Fresh Green Bean Salad: This one can pretty much go from garden to plate pretty fast! Not all salads have to be lettuce, this is a great green bean salad! Click here.
Amish Hamburger-Corn Casserole: This is a great meal. Very hearty. A bit more about this casserole here: Amish and Mennonite kitchens are full of so many casserole concoctions, like this Amish Hamburger Corn Casserole. Many of them are similar: loaded with ground beef, perhaps noodles, maybe some corn, other veggies…all are meant to give the casserole "heft." Amish suppers are meant to be heavy-duty affairs to replenish the calories burnt off from a day of hard physical work. The goal is to deliver a lot of calories along with taste. Fannie Martin's Hamburger Casserole delivers on both those. Click here for the recipe.
Grilled and Barbecued Chicken: A comfort food classic. Easy recipe! Click here.
Easy Parmesan Potatoes: This is a really tasty recipe that gives you a nice, comforting side dish if you are in need of one. Check it out here.
Strawberry Moon Cake: Here is a bit about this recipe, which is so refreshing and perfect for summer! This is a light, refreshing cake combining gelatin and fresh strawberries and it is especially delicious in summer. Why is it called “Strawberry Moon Cake”? Because one bite is all it takes to send your taste buds “over the moon!” Hope you and your fellow foodies enjoy this as much as my family and I do! Click here for the recipe.
