Trending Recipes and Favorite Photos, 11-6-2021: Peanut Butter Spread, Beefy Sour Cream Bake, Strawberry Coffeecake, and More!

    Published: Nov 6, 2021 · Updated: Apr 29, 2022 by Kevin Williams | 1 Comment

We have a lot of great trending recipes this week, so let's take a look!

    🧇 Trending Breakfasts

Strawberry Coffeecake: Strawberries aren't really in season so I'm surprised in some ways to see this trending, but nowadays, I guess, you can pretty much get strawberries anytime. Here's a bit more about this wonderfully, easy recipe, here is a bit more about it:

Coffeecakes, like this Best Amish Strawberry Coffeecake, are a breakfast staple in Amish homes.   When I told my youngest daughter that we would be baking a coffeecake, she asked “is there coffee in it?” No, I had to explain to her, there is no coffee in it, although I also told that I have seen some coffeecake recipes that have coffee in it. Anyway,I explained to her that people just like drinking a cup of coffee with a slice of cake like this. Although, in my case it might be called “Coke Cake" because I enjoy sipping a can of Coke in the morning with a slice of this.  But I’m not quite sure “Coke cake “has the same ring to it

Amish Sticky Buns: Maybe this is a trending one because it'd be a nice sweet treat breakfast on a holiday morning, here is a bit more about this recipe:

Cinnamon rolls are ubiquitous in Amish kitchens and bakeries, but "sticky buns" are not far behind.  And we have a great sticky buns recipe today! Over the years since this post was first written, I've seen sticky buns showing up more and more places. I almost bought some the other day when I was visiting an Amish bakery. "Sticky buns" are a common confection in Amish kitchens, although they seem more prevalent in Pennsylvania.  They remind me of a cross between a cinnamon roll and a coffeecake.

    🍿 Trending Appetizer

I wasn't sure whether to call this an "appetizer" or a side, or something else, but this is delicious....Amish church peanut butter spread: it is a recipe with just a few ingredients but it is a staple in Amish country. You'll find it served at almost every Amish church gathering and even in squirt bottles in restaurants in Amish country. Basically eat it on everything. Click here for the recipe.

    🍲 Trending Meals

Bishop's Beefy Sour Cream Bake: This is an amazing farmhouse favorite.....here is a bit more about this recipe: The Bishop's Beefy Sour Cream Rice Bake is one of these hearty farmhouse meals that the Amish are legendary for.  Rice isn't sometimes the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Amish cooking, but rice is available in large quantities, sold in big burlap bags in most Amish-owned bulk food stores.  Rice is cheap and it can be used to stretch a meal.  Rice, historically, was not a large part of the Amish menu but with the advent of quick rices, etc, the staple has gradually gained currency in Amish homes. Penny Supper Casserole: This is another delicious one....click here.

Scalloped Potatoes & Ham: This is so good, hearty, give it a try! Here is a bit more about this dish:

Whether it’s butchering beef, pork, or poultry, the cold months mean stocking up on meat which means you can enjoy it year-round including in the hot month of August. Butchering is a hot, messy job that the whole family pitches in to accomplish. Who wants to be up to their elbows in lard and beef on a roasting July day? That’s why the hard work of putting up meat is done during winter. February is a popular month. The bustle of the holidays are behind and the task of putting out a spring garden lays ahead. The butchering is often done outdoors or in a shed so a cold winter’s day will  keep the meat fresh. Click here.

A beautiful winter scene from Conewango Valley, New York....I am sure the snow will start flying there soon. My wife just happened to snap this photo as the buggy went by.
