We are deep into January and that means comfort foods continue to rule the roost. Winter means comfort: thick soups, casseroles, and hearty pies! So let's take a look at what recipes are leading the way in Google searches to Amish365 this week.

    🥣 Trending Amish Soups

    Stuffed Green Pepper Soup

Stuffed Green Pepper Soup: This is a comfort food classic - Amish Stuffed Green Pepper Soup is typical of what you'd find in an Amish kitchen, with late-season peppers being plentiful.  Now, what is going to vary from kitchen to kitchen is how much "spice" to add.  Smoked paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder are nice additions to this soup and I'll put them in the recipe below as optional, because you don't have to add those to still get a really nice soup.

    🍲 Trending Amish Meals

Great Depression One-Dish Meal: Here is more about this recipe: the lean years of the Great Depression definitely impacted Amish cooking by steering an already frugal culinary tradition even more in that direction.  More recently, the Great Recession reinforced a minimalist cooking style among the Amish.  This is an old, but very simple recipe, that comes from an Amish woman in Adams County, Indiana.   This is dish could be doubled and tripled depending on the size of the family you are trying to feed (and their appetites).  But if you look closely at this dish, it is pretty well-rounded and, for an Amish cook, economically Click here for the recipe.

Amish Pork Chops: a winter classic, so easy and full of flavor!

Amish Wedding Steak: A few thoughts on this classic Amish dish:

Amish wedding steak.  It's a budget-friendly meal that is a tradition in some Amish settlements, primarily in northern Indiana.   Amish weddings are huge undertakings that often require feeding 800 to 1000 guests.  Obviously, you won't be serving porterhouse steaks to the attendees.  The ground beef, cracker crumbs, mushrooms, etc are all a way to "dress up" the beef in an economical but festive dish.

Sweet Potato Casserole: This is a comfort food classic! Click here for this amazing recipe.

3-Ingredient Cherry Dump Cake: Here is more about this recipe - Amish Cherry Dump Cake is one of these recipes that you can't really go wrong with.  It checks all the boxes as far as I am concerned:  boxed cake mix, cherry pie filling, butter, and it's quick.   Now I'd probably have used a can of blueberry pie filling if it had been up to me.  We made this Cherry Dump Cake over a campfire at a recent gathering, but you can make it at home in your oven just as easily
