Amish Dilly Bread: A super meal bread infused with the taste of dill. Perfect spread with butter.
Oatmeal Bread: Another delicious meal bread popular in Amish homes. Here's a bit about this one: While often sliced and served for supper, fresh bread can be found on the table at any meal of the day. I used to make a lot more bread when all of our children were still living at home - usually about nine loaves a week. I would bake the bread before they came so when they got in the door it was good and warm." - Elizabeth Coblentz, from The Amish Cook. Click here for the recipe.

Super Seven Layer Salad: This is a great summer picnic recipe, but it also shows up on a lot of Thanksgiving tables. Here is a little bit about this salad:
This Amish super seven-layer salad recipe is popular and a staple at church gatherings and potlucks. I've always enjoyed them with their hearty layers of peas, lettuce, cheese. So you'll love the Amish seven-layer salad recipe below. I'm not sure I've ever stood there and counted the layers and it's possible someone corner-cutting cook has shorted me on a layer from time to time, but I do enjoy the salad.
There are so many versions of this popular salad. Man, looking at this photo makes me miss my grandmother...just seeing her handwriting is like seeing her. I notice her version has celery in it and specifies Colby cheese, which are both different from the Amish recipe below. So, you know, feel free to tweak.

Shaker Baked Beans: This is an interesting recipe. It's a nice vegetarian version of baked beans. Here's a bit more:
Many people think the Shakers died out a generation or so ago, but four Shakers still live quietly in Sabbathday Lake, Maine. I visited the Shaker settlement a couple of weeks ago and came away with a new understand of their religion and beliefs, which I'll share a bit with you in the coming days.
The Shakers were at the forefront of American innovation at their height. Shaker furniture is known world-wide for its exquisite craftsmanship and durability. Shakers also invented the modern day flat broom, circular saw and clothespin. In addition their songs and cooking made their way into American pop culture. Baked Caramel Delight: This is a delicious dessert that makes a nice, creamy complement to pumpkin pie. Here is a bit more about it: Desserts are an important Amish cultural component. I don’t talk about them a lot from a cultural standpoint, but why are sweets and the Amish so synonymous? Dessert is part of bringing people together. Sure, maybe not everyone around the table likes the pot roast, the asparagus casserole, or the mashed potatoes, but everyone is going to – in this case – like the caramel delight, or the cookies, or the cake. Dessert is a unifier. It’s also a chance to keep the conversation flowing, keep everyone lingering longer before the spread out for their pre-bedtime chores. Click here.
Sour Cream Apple Pie: Classic apple pie. Click here for the recipe.
Homemade Pumpkin Cobbler: A delicious pumpkin pie alternative: What I like about the Amish pumpkin cobbler recipe is that you get a lot of the taste of pumpkin pie, but this easier to scoop out then cutting slices of pie. And it's also less work, no crust to worry about, just a cobblery top. Click here for the recipe.
