This may have been my toughest "weekly blogroll" yet to assemble. Some weeks it's so easy, but there just wasn't much Plain in the blogosphere over the past week so I had to really reach. But this is what I came up with!
MENNONITES AND ANIMALS: I'll be honest, I tried reading this 3 or 4 times and I just couldn't get through it. Maybe I was just having a bad day. I don't know what the point of the article is really. If someone who has a greater attention span than I can get through it and give us a succinct explanation, I'd sure appreciate it. There are some neat photos with the article and it is about Mennonites and animals, but beyond that I got lost. Click here to see if you can get through it.
EASY CROCKPOT AMISH CHICKEN AND NOODLES: Not sure how this recipe from MomMaven has Amish origins since most Amish don't have crockpots. I'm sure the recipe just has Amish origins and has been adapted for a slow-cooker. Check it out here.
STRAWBERRY DELIGHT: Okay, I can always count on talented young Mennonite writer Briana Thomas in a pinch. She's offering up a healthy-sounding seasonal recipe for Strawberry Delight this week. This recipe is definitely more polished and a bit more involved than some of the Amish versions I have seen but, wow, it looks worth the effort! Click here for the recipe.
REAL LANCASTER COUNTY: This really is the premiere place online to plan your trip to Lancaster County. Find out about the little-known gems, bed and breakfasts, and non-chain eateries, Click here to visit the site! Thank you to Deon for sharing that image with us.
WEIGHT-LOSS: For those of you on my daily email list (hmmmm, if you are not on it, why not?) you know I've been battling my weight this year (actually, "battle" is too strong of a word, I feel like I've been using a cheap plastic squirt gun against a tank)....I do like this blog because this woman - get this - lost 150 pounds in the past year or so. 150. One Hundred and Fifty....while I am struggling to lose 5. What blows my mind is I don't need to lose 150....If I'd lose 150 I'd have to be hospitalized...50 pounds would be nice to lose, though. I'd settle for 30. Anyway, her blog isn't flashy, she she isn't some well-known celeb with access to all the latest health gurus. No, she just did it herself and you have to really admire her for that. Maybe we can get her to share some recipes sometime since I know our readers love that. Okay, click here to read her latest post about goal-setting. Meanwhile, I am going to regroup and decide what to do next weight-wise since what I am doing - which isn't enough - isn't working.
