Okay, ready for our weekly whirl through the blogosphere to explore anything and everything Plain? We have a slate of interesting topics today, so let's jump right int!
AMISH BEET JELLY: The Canning Granny continues her Amish recipe series by sharing a recipe for Amish beet jelly and sharing a bit about the Amish custom of "bundling." This is a controversial custom among the Amish that is supposed to cut down on pre-martial relationships but may actually do more to cause problems than prevent them. "Bundling" is what it sounds like, another term in non-Amish society is "spooning." Read more about it and get the recipe for beet jelly here.
THE AMISH SIDE: This is an interesting blog. The writer was born into an Amish family but her parents left the faith while she was very young. However, she still retains close ties with her family. And I can't tell for sure, but it looks like somewhere on her blog she sells and ships baked goods. Yum!:) Click here to read this interesting entry.
YODER'S RESTAURANT: I have two favorite Amish restaurants: Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen in Mount Hope, Ohio and Yoder's in Sarasota. Kind of a toss-up as to which I like best. Yoder's in Sarasota is celebrating its 40th anniversary this summer and the "Sarasota Foodie" food blog has a wonderful retrospective of Yoder's on their website. Click here to enjoy. The photos on the blog show Yoder's 40 years ago and today, so the photo I have posted (that my Grandpa took) is from 1990, right in the middle of Yoder's incredible run so that is appropriate.
AMISH CASSEROLE: Patricia's Patchwork shares Amish365's recipe for "Amish Casserole" along with wonderful photos. A very hearty, classic comfort dish. Click here for the recipe and to see the wonderful selection of photos.
BONNETS IN BROOKLYN: Apparently bonnets aren't just for the Amish or Easter Sunday anymore. This retro clothing trend has been spotting going mainstream in Manhattan. Click here to see some interesting photos of this interesting trend!
