Weekly Blogroll: Amish Chicken Schnitzel, Raisin Bran Friendship Bread, Amish Soy Chicken?, and More McNulty

Okay, we have some interesting posts this week on Blogroll so let's jump right in!

AMISH CHICKEN SCHNTIZEL:  Joe's Butcher Shop in Indiana delivers another amazing Amish-themed recipe this

    Sam the Butcher

Sam the Butcher, would he have served Amish chicken schnitzel?

week that I had to share.  For some reason I always think of "Sam the Butcher", the distinctive-voiced blue-collar everyman who was housekeeper Alice's on-again, off-again beau in the 70s sitcom, The Brady Bunch.  Next time I am in central Indiana I'll stop by Joe's and see if he is like Sam. In the meantime, enjoy Joe's great recipe here!

RAISIN BRAN FRIENDSHIP BREAD:    You need to be well-versed in sourdough to pull this recipe off.  But there is a link to "starter" in this recipe, apparently it makes a tasty bread! Click here for the recipe!

AMISH SOY CHICKEN?  I stumbled upon a recipe for "Amish chicken" this past week, but I will say that the vast majority of Amish cooks I know would never use soy milk or soy flour in a recipe.  Soy just isn't something common to Amish culinary culture.  But this recipe comes from an "abstinent recipe" site which, my understanding, is that abstinent recipes contain no sugar or traditional wheat flour....so, this recipe is likely an adaptation of an existing Amish chicken recipe.  So, if you are looking for an Amish chicken recipe with a healthy twist this may be for you!

CHERYL MCNULTY  AMISH ART:   Don't mean to swoon over her artwork all the time, but I do love it. I just think Cheryl captures the Amish ambiance so perfectly in both scenery and facial expressions of her human representations.  She has two pastel works to share with us this week, one is of "Emma" a composite of what I'd call a "typical Amish girl" in Lancaster County, PA.  The other is a "farmstand scene." In addition to just being exquisite works of art, the photos sing summer....ahhh, I can't wait until Amish farmstands are selling ripe and ready fruits and veggies.  Click here for Emma and click here for the Farmstand work.

HAD ENOUGH WINTER?  Let me torture you with a visit to one of my favorite blogs, Tom the Backroads Traveler is in Maui this week....click here to soak in his images of sun and surf.

Way to go Keven. (concerning your diet.) Sounds like your handling it just right. The most I have been overweight is about thirty pounds. I just watched what I thought was the culprit just as you are doing. I dropped the weight in no time. I also treated myself to that culprit occasionally. I really believe we often get discouraged because because we do not allow that once and awhile treat.
Kudos to Graber for sending the crew for breaking Amish on their way. My kind of woman.

Thank you so much again, Kevin for the nice comments and links to my blog page. I believe I even made a sale on my Etsy site because of your post! I would love to give you a "thank you" gift print of any Amish painting you think you would like to have. Please just message me and let me know which one and where to send it. I really appreciate all you have done.
I also want to thank all the readers of your posts for the kind words to me on my blog about my paintings. This is what keeps me going. Thank you.
I really love your blog and I really, really want to be in Lancaster right NOW! Thanks for everything! Cheryl

That's very kind, Cheryl, but one of these days I'll buy one!:) Your work has brought me some needed calming peace during a turbulent past year, so one of these days I'll get one of your works for my office. In the meantime, I just appreciate being able to share them with others. Keep up the good work! - kevin
