We've got some neat things in this week's blogroll, where we explore anything and everything Plain, so I'll jump right into the festivities.
Amish Cinnamon Rolls: You can never post cinnamon roll recipes too many times, right?:) Amish cooks have become legendary for their cinnamony confections and the Oursimplelife blog posted photos and a recipe on their blog. Yum. Click here to see this delicious post and recipe.
Amish Funny Cake: Funny cake is a...well, funny cake, recipe. It is chocolately and a recipe that you see in a lot of Amish cookbooks. I think it is a tasty cake, but I guess "Amish Tasty Cake" doesn't sound quite as...funny? Click here for a recipe post on a European recipe exchange site.
Farm Photo: This is gorgeous shot of an Amish farm. I'm not sure where the photo was taken and there isn't much information about the photographer available, which is too bad because he has some beautiful work!
Amish Cheesehouse: This is an interesting blog post by a Filipino woman who married a man from my old stopping grounds (Dubai) and now lives in Texas. She was surprised to catch a glimpse of "Amish Country" while passing by Choteau, Oklahoma. Her post is fun to read because she describes her visit to The Amish Cheese House in Choteau, which sounds like a perfectly fun place to visit, but hardly a substitute for authentic Amish country. Unfortunately, some people visit those types of stores and think they've "seen Amish country." But she should have gone off the backgroads and explored a bit, bought some fresh eggs from a farmhouse or something like that. The Choteau community is more progressive than some other Amish settlements (they use tractors, for instance). Anyway, click here to read about this blogger's visit to the Amish Cheese House in Choteau.
Tiny House: Okay, lastly, this is an Amish-made (I'm guessing by someone in the Smyrna, Maine settlement) house for sale for $12,500. Maybe I'm romanticizing this too much, but, wow...for some reason the idea of living in a 12 X 16 adobe someday doesn't seem so bad. This "tiny house" has been outfitted with electric, a mini-bathroom, and all the other amenities you really need. Click here to see more!
