We have a nice selection of recipes and stories in this week's Blogroll, so grab that cup of coffee (or cold Coke!), settle in, and prepare to read!
MIRIAM GOOD'S GERMAN CHOCOLATE PIE: I love German Chocolate Cake, but GC Pie? Mmmmmmm....The recipe comes from the Mennonite Recipes from the Shenandoah Valley cookbook. Phyllis Pellman Good created some amazing cookbooks over the years and the Shenandoah Valley is such a rich repository of Mennonite mores and f
ood. This recipe for German Chocolate Pie comes from that book and Patricia over at the Patchwork Quilt blog recreated it, check out the recipe here!
MEEMAW'S MOM'S GINGER CRISP COOKIES: Imagine stumbling upon one of your beloved, departed mother's recipe cards written in her own hand. That is exactly what happened to "Meemaw" who runs the "Meemaw Eats" site. Love the way she described finding it as a "warm, holiday hug" from her mother. Classic. Meemaw is based near a large settlement in SE Iowa and I can guarantee you that anything with ginger is popular among the Amish especially around the holidays. Check out Meemaw's mom's amazing sounding recipe and look at the recipe card. Priceless. Click here.
AMISH WOMAN WITH A PIE: Rhode Island artist Cheryl McNulty has finished another gem, this one delightful image of an Amish woman checking out one of her pies. I do love the rich, warm brown background that draws you in. Check out her finished work here!
KATIE TROYER: Always fun to check in with Katie to see the happenings in the Pinecraft Amish winter enclave down in Sarasota, Florida. Read about Katie's "lucky lunch" here.
HELLO DOWN UNDER! Rhonda Hetzel blogs about simple and minimalist living in Australia. There aren't any Amish in Australia - yet - by the way. There are, to my knowledge, a few families that live an Amish style life in Australia and on the island of Tasmania there is a "Plain church" that has some ties to the Beachy Amish, but don't know much about them. Anyway, Rhonda was kind enough to send some traffic to Amish365, so I'll return the favor....check out this post on her blog about making homemade ginger beer and then explore the rest of her fascinating site!
BLOGROLL REWIND - AMISH CHICKEN: This recipe for "Amish chicken" is a blog called "unwritten recipes" and was posted back in 2014, sounds yummy! Click here.
