Haven't done a Blogroll in a couple of weeks so thought day would be a good day to do one.

    Amish Salisbury Steak

AMISH "BARBECUED SALISBURY STEAK" -  Patricia over at the Patchwork Quilt blog was excited to find this recipe and I'm excited to bring it to you. It's from the Big Valley Cookbook which is an invaluable compendium of recipes from a very diverse Amish community.   It is really neat to find ground beef recipes that are so easy, yet offer such a flavor twist.  Check out the recipe and read more here!

THE BUDGET:  This post really tugged at me.   It's hard to explain why and I'm not sure I'll even try to explain here.  For newbies, The Budget is the Amish newspaper and it's sent by mail (or in this case, by bus) to most Amish families.  But I sense - and this is pure conjecture on my part - that The Budget is losing a little of its currency with the Amish.  The Amish are having growing access to a variety of media and communication methods.   If the Budget is still a crucial communication tool among the Amish, my guess is that that will diminish over time...but its neat to see it still commanding such attention.  Check out Katie Troyer's post from Pinecraft here.

AMISH WOMEN IN THE WOODSHOP:  This is a super post by one of our site sponsors, DutchCrafters furniture.  Making furniture is a truly Amish family affair, women have roles in the shop, from bookkeeping to actually running some of the tools in some places.  Click here to see some great photos and background about women in the woodshop.   And if you are in the market for authentic Amish-made furniture, DutchCrafters works with many family-owned Amish furniture shops to bring you the best.  Check them out here.

TOPEKA, INDIANA AMISH HAY AUCTION:  Check out an interesting post with some great photos about an Amish hay auction.  Click here.

    BLOG SPIN:

We spun the wheel and came up with two posts:

HOOSIER AMISH CAKE:   This is a coffeecake, looks amazing, and sounds amazing, yet simple to make...click here for the recipe.

AMISH CINNAMON BREAD - Doesn't get any better than this! Click here.
