Weekly Blogroll: Cheryl McNulty, Butterscotch Cream Pie, Gratin Potatoes, and More!

    Time for a weekly blogroll:

CHERYL MCNULTY:  I love her newest painting of an impish looking young Amish girl holding a doll. I was holding my breath on this one, hoping she didn't paint a faceless doll.  And, good call on her part, she punted and drew the doll from behind.  Amish children are often depicted holding faceless dolls, but this is more a tourist confection than reality.  Most Amish children that I have met over the years play with dolls that have faces. Anyway, click here to see this beautiful finished painting.

BRUCE STAMBAUGH:  I always love his writing.  Bruce spent most of his life in Ohio's Amish country before moving to Virginia (he winters in Florida with his wife)...check out his poetic rendition of a recent morning along the Atlantic. Click here.

BUTTERSCOTCH CREAM PIE:  There is a butterscotch cream pie on Amish365 that has done well over the years but, holy moly, this butterscotch cream pie on Dixie's Kitchen looks absolutely amazing.  Man, I'd love a piece of that pie.  Wow, wow, and wow....butterscotch is amazing, one of the best flavors...click here for the recipe.

Wow, these au gratins look mouth-watering!

POTATO GRATIN:  Man, these potatoes au gratin look awesome. The recipe comes from MeeMaw's kitchen, she blogs from Kalona, Iowa (but, she is in Florida snowbirding now also)....Usually I think of potatoes au gratin as a yellowy, cheesy, starchy comfort food, but this looks pretty amazing, better than the kind I am thinking of.  Click here.

PINECRAFT:  And continuing our snowbird theme, check out Katie Troyer's blog this week. Pinecraft, Florida, the winter enclave for the Amish, is teeming and at its peak right now....Katie captures the zest and spirit of this unique community with her commentary and photos, check it all out here!
