Welcome to blogroll, time to check in with some our friends across the internet today:
Homemade chicken-fried steak!
CHICKEN FRIED STEAK WITH GRAVY: Man, this really looks and sounds amazing. Chicken-fried steak is something you find on Amish menus and you find it in Dixie's Kitchen this week. I've never fixed chicken fried steak before, but Dixie makes it look amazing and easy. Click here for the recipe.
DAY'S END: I keep wanting to type "Day's Inn", but,no, this painting is Day's End, a new painting by Cheryl McNulty. Here is what Cheryl says about it:
With this painting, I wanted to portray an Amish girl lost in her thoughts, at the end of a busy day. At this moment, she is enjoying the quiet and gathering wildflowers as the day turns to dusk. What could she be thinking? What will tomorrow bring, perhaps?
The girl does look lost in her thoughts and, yeah, seems appropriate for today's world in which even the Amish have been swept up in the issues of the day. Click here to see this finished painting.
BARN RAISING: Tom the Backroads Traveller captures some fascinating and beautiful scenes of an Amish barn-raising in rural upstate New York. Check it out here.
SMALL-BATCH AMISH SUGAR COOKIES: This isn't one of our regulars, in terms of blogs I feature, but I found this recipe and...Oh, man, I swooned over these cookies.....the blogger says you can leave them plain or glaze them. Glaze, please. These look amazing and the recipe easy, perfect for a pandemic, click here to see the recipe.
MOVING MOUNTAINS - OF HAY: This is the type of scene that I love visiting Amish country to see...You just never know what you will encounter: perhaps a horse pulling a horse, or a horse pulling an old refrigerator, or a snowman dressed as a scarecrow. You just never know. Check out what one of Erik Wesner's readers saw.

Hi Kevin! Try the Harry Potter books! They aren’t just for kids, and many “old folks” like me couldn’t put them down. There is a lot of fantasy in them, but it’s so gripping that you hardly notice. I bought them all in hardback to keep and pass on. Biographies of famous people usually keep me glued to the book. I prefer “real” books too, but admit reading quite a few on Kindle or iPad.
I love your blog & look forward to it. My dad’s family all settled in Lancaster, PA, but I don’t think any were Amish. Betsy

SIGH, thanks Betsy, I tried to read the HP books...my wife devoured them, but I just couldn't get into them...but I think it was because of the small print, maybe I need to try those on a Kindle

Yes, I do think you would enjoy reading on a Kindle or iPad, since you can use a large font. That’s the only way my brother can read, since he’s legally blind. Fathers Day is here! ???? have a happy one with your adorable little daughters. Betsy
