We haven't cruised through the blogosphere lately in search of anything Amish, so I thought I'd do so today:

    Amazing-looking coconut cream pie...

AMISH COCONUT CREAM PIE:  Man, this looks amazing.  I'd eat this whole pie.  I am a late-in-life coconut convert. I didn't used to care for coconut much, but now I can't get enough of it and this pie would be the pinnicle.  Coconut lovers, check out this recipe on Patricia's Patchwork site here.

STRAWBERRY PRETZEL SALAD:  My wife used to fix this all the time, I'll have to put in a request for it again soon, this is an amazing dessert. It sounds suspect, but it is really good. Probably not good for you, but good. Click here.

THE COLORS OF AUGUST:  Bruce Stambaugh, a lifelong resident (until recently), of Holmes County, Ohio's Amish country wrote a poetic piece about the changing colors of August.  I think it captures it beautifully. Click here.

PLAIN INDIANA:  A superb post - I used to write a lot more like these - that walks you through the differences in the various Plain sects, so if you want a good primer on the difference between Amish, Mennonites, and other Plain churches this is an excellent read.

AMISH REALITY:  I had my own brush with Amish reality TV about 5 or 6 years ago during its heyday. I was never comfortable with the "reality shows" and Erik Wesner posts a great behind-the-scenes vantagepoint from a producer.  Yep, confirmed what I had thought all along, these shows were heavily scripted or as one produced told me "heavily produced" (code for scripted). Click here to read more.

LINCOLN:  Not Amish, but still of interest.  Cheryl McNulty did a superb portrait of President Abraham Lincoln, check it out here.
