Time for our weekly whirl through the blogosphere in search of anything and everything Amish (or delicious) and I have some yummy and interesting things to share this week!
MEATBALL SUB CASSEROLE: Have a house full of hungry people? This sounds like just the ticket. Home Joys is a wonderful blog written by a conservative Mennonite mother in Pennsylvania. Her blog has all sorts of good stuff, this week she has a recipe for homemade "Meatball Sub Casserole." Click here for this hearty dish!
APPLE WALNUT COBBLER: Patricia's Patchwork recreated an Amish recipe, the apple cobbler recipe from the Wanda Brunstetter Amish Friends cookbook, check it out here!
Meemaw's two minute breakfast sandwich...wow, Heaven!:)
MEEMAW'S TWO-MINUTE BREAKFAST SANDWICH: Okay, I'm in heaven. People on my e-newsletter know that I have been trying to lose weight for a couple of years. This year I'm actually seeing some success and I think a large part of it has been trading in my beloved breakfast sandwiches for fruit. I was just eating too much in the morning, breakfast sandwiches, granola bars, snacks, cookies, sometimes all of the above....but breakfast sandwiches made me swoon, a nice fluffy egg, buried in melted cheese, and whatever else I wanted to stuff in there all between two thick pieces of toast, a biscuit, whatever. So when I saw MeeMaw's 2-minute breakfast sandwich, SIGH, it brought back all sorts of memories. I still do occasionally have my egg indulgences at breakfast (although usually just with some salsa on the side, thanks, reader Pat for that suggestion) and if I decide to have another soon, I may just have to try this. Check out MeeMaw's two minute breakfast sandwich here.
AMISH: OUT OF ORDER: So, anyone remember Mose Gingerich, one of the stars of 2012's show: Amish Out of Order? A little history here, this show was at the height of the "Amish craze" on TV. TV producers were tripping over themselves trying to scour Amish country for potential reality TV projects. This craze came largely in response to the success of "Amish: Out of Order." Anyway, one of the show's stars went through a bit of a rough period after the show but he seems to have found his footing now. Good for him. Click here to read the latest from Mose.
SPRING IN KALONA: Check out some beautiful images from Iowa's largest Amish settlement. I've spent very little time there, someday I want to make it back to Kalona to explore. Check out these beautiful photos of spring in Iowa's Amish country from author Thomas Nye.
