Time for our weekly whirl through the blogosphere in search of everything and anything Amish. Most of this week's stops take us to old favorites. There's something comforting about the familiar like we're visiting an old friend, so I think that is why I find myself going back to the same blogs week in and week out.
MEEMAW'S BROCCOLI CHEESE SOUP: Meemaw lives in one of Iowa's largest Amish settlements, Kalona. While all of her recipes are Amish influenced, I still like to check out her blog for the occasional glimpses into Kalona. I will tell you, though, that using canned soup is not uncommon at all among the Amish. Some readers are surprised by this, but canned soups became very much a part of the Amish culinary tradition in the processed food boom years after WWII. This soup is a hybrid, blending some scratch qualities with canned to get a delicious creation! Click here for the recipe!
JUICY MEATLOAF: We've posted some very popular meatloaf recipes on this site before, but this is a Yoder family favorite that comes from the Blessed Beyond Measure cookbook from Holmes County, Ohio. The recipe looks and sounds worth checking out! Click here for the recipe.
CHERYL MCNULTY - This is an update on the progress of her latest Amish portrait. I messed up the link last week so thought I would repost this week. This may be one of my favorite paintings by Cheryl, I can't wait to see the final version! Click here to see the progress.
AMISH BARNS - Tom the Backroads Traveller captured some spring barn beauty recently in the Conewango Valley of New York. This is one of my favorite Amish communities. Check out these gorgeous images here and if you are ever in the area, stop by and enjoy the scenery! Click here.
BRUCE STAMBAUGH - Check out Bruce's recent visits among the Old Order Amish of Dayton, Virginia, one of my favorite Plain communities! His post has a lot of great photos and info, so check it out here!
BLOG SPIN - AMISH OVEN-FRIED CHICKEN: Spun the wheel and found this blog post from 10 years ago on an abandoned but still active blog! A delicious Amish recipe for some oven-friend chicken. Enjoy! Click here.
