Okay, time to buckle up and settle in for our weekly whirl throughout the blogosphere in search of anything and everything Plain.

Chocolate Nutty Pie, a festive holiday treat!

Chocolate Nutty Pie, a festive holiday treat!

CHOCOLATE NUTTY PIE:  I thought this was an Amish or Mennonite recipe when I first saw it and was all excited, but then I re-read the post and it is not...but, close enough.  Chocolate Pie is popular in Amish kitchens, as is "nut pie", so why not Chocolate Nutty Pie.  Patricia over at the Patchwork Quilt site (geez, she has a social life that puts mine to shame...I guess I'll chalk it up to the young 'uns in my house, my social life pretty much consists of kid birthday parties now) posted this amazing-sounding recipe. Check out chocolate nutty pie here.

CHRISTMAS TRAINS:  Off topic, but Tom the Backroads Traveller has a post and pictures of Christmas train displays and muses that there's something about "boys and trains."  Nope, at least in my case, it is also girls...my 3-year-old loves trains....In Cincinnati there used to be a Christmas train display in the old Cinergy (predecessor to Duke Energy) building, not sure where that train display is now?  Anyway, click here to see Tom's post.

APPLE GOODIE:  Charm City ramblings posted a recipe for an Amish classic.  The recipe comes from an Amish family's cookbook, which is where you are really going to find the most authentic Amish recipes and most culturally relevant ones.  There are a few copies of the book available from Amazon here.  Meanwhile, you can get the Apple Goodie recipe here.

OVEN-BAKED CARAMEL CORN:  Now this just sounds down-right amazing for the holidays.  Thank you, Meemaw! Click here for the recipe.

RISE N ROLL'S CARAMEL CINNAMON DOUGHNUTS:  I posted about these precious culinary treasures from northern Indiana's Amish country the other day.  Click here to read about one blogger's hunt for the recipe here...you may not come away from this post with the recipe, but you'll get some good caramel sauce and yeast doughnut recipes!
