We have a great slate of articles this week on blogroll so let’s get right to it!
TACO CASSEROLE: From the MeeMaw Eats blog this is a recipe for homemade taco casserole. This resembles a recipe called “Deep Dish Taco Squares” which is popular in Amish kitchens. Check out Meemaw’s recipe here.
CAN’T LEAVE ALONE BARS: I’ve had these before. And I have one word for them: yum. I’ve seen these at Fountain Acre Foods, an Amish bakery and bulk food store near Richmond, Indiana. But you can make them yourself easily and, if you are like me, you wont’ be able to leave them alone. Patricia at the Patchwork Quilt blog gave the recipe a tried and it looks awesome! Click here for the recipe. The recipe comes from the Harvest Heritage Cookbook, a collection of over 700 recipes from northern Indiana.
ROASTED LOIN OF PORK: I don’t do enough meat recipes on this site so when I saw this on Patricia’s site, I thought I’d share. Seems like such a simple, yet flavorful, way to fix this cut of meat. Check it out here.
22 SOUPS: Gina at the Home Joys blog is sharing 22 of her favorite winter soup recipes. Gina is a talent young Mennonite mom who maintains an informative and fun blog chronicling her family life and food. Click here for this amazing assortment of soups!
AMISH SCHOOLS: The “Get Me To the Country” blog has some good photos of Amish school scenes in the very conservative Swartzentruber Amish settlement of Tennessee. Click here to savor these scenes and read some of the blogger’s thoughts about Amish education.
KATIE TROYER – I hope you’re enjoying these weekly snapshots of Pinecraft as the Amish winter enclave crescendos towards its peak population of the year (which is right about now…the Amish snowbird population will hold fairly steady from now through early March when the population will begin to lessen and by Easter everyone is gone).
