Welcome to our weekly whirl through the blogosphere in search of anything and everything Amish. I have some old favorites and some new ones to share this week, so let's get right to it:
AMISH APPLE AND CINNAMON BAKED OATMEAL: I don't eat a ton of oatmeal and I don't know why. I sometimes dismiss the dish as a breakfast because I'm in too big of a hurry, but it doesn't take that long. Maybe it just doesn't fill me up like one of my beloved breakfast sandwiches does. But this blog recently posted a tasty sounding, seasonal formulation for an Amish baked oatmeal. Check it out here.
SAUERKRAUT PIE: Ah,this blogger is in my neck of the woods....and her blog does feature Amish recipes. This one isn't Amish per se,but sauerkraut is popular among the Plain people so I am sure this pie is on the menu in some places. Check out the recipe here.
JEAN'S APPLE BREAD: This is from a website that focuses on Amish and Mennonite culture in New York, check out this recipe here.
Donald J. Trump
THE BUDGET TRUMPS TRUMP: The Donald Trump campaign has been making strong appeals to the the Amish and other Plain people to go out and vote. We won't ultimately know how successful the attempts have been until after the election but one avenue has been shut down: The Budget. The Amish newspaper is turning away future ads from the Trump campaign after some readers complained. Check out this post on Harvey Yoder's blog.
Amish Mustard Eggs....either make them yourself or go to a Der Dutchman buffet!
AMISH MUSTARD EGGS: Man, I have had these before and they are good....Seriously, my life would be a lot easier if I didn't have such a voracious appetite. I could eat four or five of these in a single sitting if I let myself (I won't). For those who might not make them at home, you can find mustard eggs on (or is it in?) the buffet at Der Dutchman? Click here to check out this great step by step recipe/tutorial about how to make the eggs.
READER BLOG - MICROWAVE APPLE CRISP FOR ONE: I'd like to do more featuring of blogs from among the ranks of our own Amish365 readers. Aimee stopped by Amish365 and her blog is choc full of money-saving hints and thrifty recipes. Definitely a blog worth checking out. This is a delicious sounding recipe she posted for "microwave apple crisp for one." Sounds like a winner, click here to check out the recipe and her blog.
