Amish Apple Dumpling Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups flour
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup lard
  • ½ cup milk
  • 3 whole apples
  • egg one egg

CINNAMON MIXTURE

  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • ½ tablespoon cinnamon

CARAMEL SAUCE

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions
 

  • Mix first four ingredients until crumbly
  • Beatmilk and egg together and pour needed amount in flour mixture until dough canbe presses together without crumbling apart.
  • Mix only until lightly blended.
  • Mix only until lightly blended.
  • Place peeled and cored apple halves onto a dough squares
  • Fill cavity of apples with cinnamon mixture
  • Wrapapple half with dough and pinch shut. 
  • Place seam side down into a cake pan. 
  • Forthe caramel sauce, stir into a saucepan and bring to a boil over low heat for 5 minutes, then pour over the top and bake at 400 for 30 minutes or until applesare tender
  • Serve warm with milk or ice cream       .
