You Tube Friday: Amish Building Storm-Proof Home, Amish Skating on Frozen Pond, Bake Shop, and Volleyball Game, and

    Published: Dec 6, 2013 · Updated: Feb 2, 2021 by Kevin Williams | 1 Comment

It's Friday which means time to explore YouTube and some of the fun video clips that people have posted pertaining to Amish and Mennonite life. There are some neat items this week.

AMISH BUILDING:  This video is several years old, but still interesting.  After Hurricane Ike laid waste to Texas's Bolivar peninsula, local residents began to rebuild. Some homeowners found their solution for a stronger house in the rich tradition of Amish building.  An Amish carpenter gives an on-camera interview about his building technique.

NEW YORK BAKERY: This is a short video clip of an Amish bakery in the Conewango Valley of New York on US 62. I've been to this same bakery and I think I even did my own video from there, but this video is worth watching just to see the mouth-watering pies and doughnuts up close!  Click here to watch.

AMISH VOLLEYBALL:  I love this video.  I'm not sure where it was taken, but it is of some young Amish men still dressed in their finest playing volleyball after an Amish wedding.  I've not seen this at a wedding before, but they are festive occasions, so why not?   Amish life is very demanding and full of hard work, so you're going to cram in the play/leisure time when you can.  Click here to watch this fun, short video clip.

AMISH ICE SKATING:  Perhaps there is no neater winter scene of innocence and simplicity than watching Old Order Amish venturing out onto a frozen pond and skating.  It's something that not a lot of people get to see.  I LOVE this short video clip that someone captured of just such a scene.  I think it's respectful video that really provides a great window into Amish winter recreation.  Click here to watch.

The same link is given for the home building as for the the Amish Bakery. Haven't found the Amish Bakery yet.
