What do you call a female namesake? Â For instance, among the Amish (and non) a boy is assigned "jr.", i.e. Marvin Jr., Levi Jr., etc. Â But is there an equivalent for a girl? Â Maybe there is and I just am unaware. Â You don't usually use juniors with girls, do you? Â So that has always left me baffled with what to call Lovina's daughter Lovina. Â I always want to call her "Little Lovina", but that present its own problems: 1) she won't always be little and 2) her Mom laughs because calling little Lovina little implies that she is somehow "large Lovina" and she's not. Â Soooo...what to do?
Anyway, 8-year-old Lovina had to be undergo an emergency appendectomy late last night. Â Surgery was a success and she is recovering comfortably today. But, sheesh, this family has had to go through a lot this year!

Glad the younger Lovina will be okay! I have heard Martha Stewart refer to her mother as "big Martha" so I think you are on the right track.

I hope she is feeling better.

Glad that 8 year old Lovina's surgery went well and she will be okay.
We hope that all will go well for the family from now on. They certainly
have had enough on their plate this year.

I agree that they have been really going through trials this Spring. I will pray that the Summer is better for all of the family, and please tell Lovina to get well quickly. She's a child of God, and she's in HIS hands. (I know children bounce back faster than us adults.) Blessings on BIG Lovina, and praise her for her great column. It's one of the first things I look for in my newspaper on Monday's. Right after the Obituaries, and the comics.....LOL

Thanks, Alice,we couldn't do this without you!

Hi,Lovina....get well soon!!

Here in South Carolina - we do use Jr. on girls and daughter-in-laws. I know of two families that have a Karen and Karen Jr, as well as, a Nancy and a Nancy Jr. One is a mom/daughter, the other is a mom/daughter-in-law. I like "Lovey" too from one of the earlier posts!

Best Wishes Lovina
My mom and grandma had the same name, so they used their middle names: one was Jan and the other Jen!

I like Miss Lovina and Mrs. Lovina! That's something we've done in my family, as we have several female namesakes. We usually call our elder female family members Mrs. Barbara, Mrs. Dixie, etc. Must be a southern Indiana thing as we aren't the only ones to do this.
Anyway, Miss Lovina, get well soon! Lots of prayers and best wishes to the family, they have had a heck of a year but nothing happens without a reason.
Joy
Yes, it is proper for girls to be a Jr. Best wishes to Lovina Jr. And a quick and uneventful recovery! Blessings to the entire family!
