I think I have a new favorite place for whoopie pies, simply because it's so close to me. The closest Amish bakery to make this awesome confection is in Wayne County, Indiana, but Thistle Confections (no, it's not bird seed...ironically, my wife sells thistle at her store) in Dayton, Ohio sells some drool-inducing versions of their own at their booth at the Second Street Market. This is a "malted chocolate ball whoopie pie" and, yes, it is as good as it looks! The middle was crammed with a fluffy buttercream frosting. I don't really even like malted milk balls, but I really liked this whoopie pie which looked and tasted like a giant malted milk ball. I'll write more about Thistle and their assortment of whoopie pies next week. Stay tuned!

Beautiful! My aunt was the only person in the family that made Whoopie Pies. I loved her chocolate with peanut butter filling.
