Mother's Pizza Sauce

A rich, homemade pizza sauce made the Amish way — fresh tomato juice, herbs, and a touch of spice for that perfect pizzeria flavor. This simple sauce keeps beautifully for year-round pizza nights and brings garden-fresh taste to every bite.

Ingredients
  

  • 10 cups tomato juice
  • 1 large onion (soaked and strained)
  • ½ cup salad oil
  • 4 tablespoons salt
  • 4 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons pepper
  • 4 large bay leaves
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper
  • 2 teaspoons oregano
  • 1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder
  • ¾ cup clear gelatin

Instructions
 

  • In a large pot, combine tomato juice, onion, oil, salt, sugar, pepper, and bay leaves.
  • Bring to a gentle boil, then add red pepper, oregano, and garlic powder.
  • Stir in clear gelatin and bring to a second boil.
  • Simmer until slightly thickened and aromatic.
  • Ladle into jars — yields about 5 pints. Perfect for pizzas or dipping breadsticks.
