Desserts are an important part of Amish culinary culture. The Amish are no different than anyone else, chocolate is considered a decadent indulgence among the Amish. And hazelnut spread - i.e. Nutella - has become popular also. Jars of Nutella can be found in Amish bulk food stores.
The Amish and Nutella
Nutella has become popular in Amish kitchens. I mean, it is addictive. Different people enjoy it in different ways, but here are some of the most popular ways I have seen it enjoy among the Amish
Spreading on graham crackers
Made into a frosting
Dipping apples into it
Adding into baked goods
📋 Step-By Nutella Frosting
To make this super frosting (you may not ever want any other frosting again!), you just need a few ingredients and a deep bowl.
First thing you have to do is have a cake to spread the nutella frosting on, so we used a classic Amish recipe for chocolate cake. Then, we topped it with a super homemade frosting.
We tried making the frosting with a spoon and with a mixer, and each way, it turned out fine. Probably a spoon is less messy, but the frosting might not be quite as smooth.
For me, I was trying to create a good consistency for spreading. I know the mayonnaise probably seems like an odd ingredient, maybe even unappetizing, but I've seen it used in glazes before so why not a frosting? My thinking was that it would help make the frosting more "spreadable."
This ended up being an amazing frosting, full of flavor. Nutella was the most dominant flavor, but it was infused with peanut butter, chocolate, and a hint of mayo tang. I highly recommend the frosting.
