Daviess County, Indiana is an often overlooked settlement. Northern Indiana's Amish are much more touristy and convenient to population centers like Chicago and Detroit. There is a lot more to do for visitors among the Amish in the Shipshewana and Nappanee area.
But Daviess County is absolutely worth a visit if you are in the area. This settlement is compromised of close to 40 church districts spread out in the Montgomery and Loogootee area. There are plenty of home-based Amish businesses to visit and some good restaurants (which I'll detail in another post!).
For today, here are some scenes from Daviess County!
Daviess County, Indiana is home to close to 40 Amish church districts. The buggies are pretty traditional with the orange safety symbols being displayed on the back. There was this funky little cart too that I saw.
I'm a sucker for Amish variety stores. I love them. Unfortunately, this one was closed. Many of the Amish businesses here are closed on Wednesdays (when I was there), so make a note of that if you plan to visit.
In Daviess County, Stoll, Graber, and Wagler are some of the most common Amish surnames.
Solar panels here are very common. Solar panels allow for the Amish to "cherry pick" technology, powering some useful tools and appliances while staying off the grid.
The buggies here are generally roofed and black, but these open carts are nice for nice days!
Verdant farmland is the primary landscape here.
Someone painted a beautiful Amish scene mural in the town of Montgomery.

There are two wonderful Amish restaurants in that area. Did you dine at either of them?
Kevin Williams
I did, Donna, I am going to post about that tomorrow!
