Nestled in the heart of Indiana's Amish country, Gasthof Amish Village offers visitors an authentic glimpse into traditional Amish life and culture. This charming destination combines excellent dining, unique shopping, and cultural experiences that make it a must-visit spot for anyone exploring Indiana's Amish settlements. And, for me, it is a great pit stop on a boring journey - east or west - on US 50 in Indiana. Ahhh, this place shines like a beacon for the weary traveler.

What Makes Gasthof Special
Gasthof Amish Village isn't just another tourist destination – it's a carefully crafted experience that honors Amish traditions while welcoming visitors from around the world. The village creates an atmosphere where you can step back in time and experience the simplicity and craftsmanship that define Amish culture.
The Famous Gasthof Buffet Restaurant
A Solid Amish Dining Experience

I've been to many Amish restaurants and buffets over the years and Gasthof is a good one. I'd not call it the best. That honor, in my view, goes to Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen in Mount Hope, Ohio. But Gasthof is definitely a solid performer, and worth the visit if you are in the area. Neither Gasthof nor the nearby Stoll's buffet are Amish-owned, but the recipes are Amish-inspired and there are Amish cooks in the kitchen.
What to Expect at the Buffet

The Gasthof buffet offers a generous spread of traditional Amish favorites that will satisfy any appetite. Here's what I discovered during my visit:
Salad Bar & Sides
- Fresh salad bar with plenty of good fixin's
- Excellent pea salad that's worth trying
- Traditional Amish sides and accompaniments
Main Dishes

- All-you-can-eat chicken prepared in classic Amish style
- Barbecued ribs (these were by far the best tasting item on the buffet, in my opinion)
- Cabbage rolls that caught my mother's attention
- Traditional stuffing made from scratch
Desserts & Bakery
- Iced sugar cookies available on the buffet
- Adjacent bakery offering plenty more goodies for those wanting additional treats
Best Times to Visit
Wednesday Night Special: This is senior night, which means visitors 65 and older can score a good deal on the buffet. It's worth noting that many Amish businesses in the community are closed on Wednesdays, so this might be the perfect night to stay at Gasthof, enjoy dinner at the buffet, and then explore the broader settlement the next day when shops are open.

Oh my Kevin I’m not sure how you could drop any weight going to buffets. Its like going back in time, me personally I have never liked buffets because I always eat too much! One of my friends who caters weddings said you save money serving people food instead of buffets.
I live in Seattle when Covid hit, most of our grocery stores stopped all of their open salad/food bars/even Deli’s. Some things have reopened in different areas. We are dealing with a real homeless issue here-they walk in the grocery/pharmacy/etc stores and just take stuff and walk out- the employees are told not to chase or confront them. Its gotten crazy!
But really I just wanted to Highlight a past way of eating Buffets!
