EXCHANGE STUDENTS IN SOUTHERN VIRGINIA: A group of German exchange college students recently toured Amish country. No biggie, happens on perhaps a daily basis. But usually those tours are in Lancaster County or one of the other larger settlements. This article was interesting to me because it occurred in Halifax County, Virginia on the border with North Carolina. Virginia's Amish population has been slow to grow over the years, but this settlement seems to really be expanding. This article gives a glimpse into it....Ahhh, to be a carefree college kid again....
UPDATED - MR. FOOD'S AMISH SAUSAGE BALLS: Ah, remember Mr. Food? He was a fun presence on local newscasts (piped in from his Florida studio). He's an example of the brand continuing without the namesake. The segments continue airing even after his passing several years ago, 2012 to be exact, using some of his assistants. This week Mr. Food's Kitchen serves up homemade Amish "sausage balls," sort of a German twist on meatballs. Click here for the recipe.
