Wow, amazing Orange Juice Cake. Citrus fruits are considered a real treat in Amish and Mennonite communities because, traditionally, they just were not very plentiful. The average Amish bulk food store historically did not stock oranges and tangerines and the like, but as more and more Amish shop in traditional supermarkets, fresh citrus is becoming more common in Amish kitchens.
🟠 The Amish and Oranges
Oranges and grapefruits are common Christmas gifts among the Amish. If an AMish grandfather has 47 grandchildren (not at all unheard of), it's a little tough to buy gifts for that many, so a big fat orange for each child would be an affordable treat.
Citrus is also made into juices and enjoy in cakes. Orange juice cakes, if you have never had one, has a strong citrus taste. I really like a citrus cake, it's a nice, sweet dessert alternative to chocolate.
The Amish in Florida are an exception when it comes to citrus. They often have orange trees ripe with fat fruit growing in their yards. I've seen the same among the Amish of Beeville, Texas.
📋 Step-by-Step Amish Orange Juice Cake
You can make this cake either in a tube/Bundt pan or a loaf pan. I did mine in a loaf pan.

Another component of this cake is eggs and you want to use fresh if you can. It does make a difference.

Some people do make this in a bundt cake pan. But you can do it in a loaf pan. I think I prefer the Bundt version.

Saundra Wood
It took me a while to follow the directions. Kind of confusing.

I agree with Saundra Wood. The recipe says pour sauce over the cake twice! Which one is correct? I want to make this for my lady at Bible Study but now I'm afraid I'm going to mess it up because the instructions are so confusing.
Kevin
Oops, sorry, Michelle, the instructions in that recipe were out of order and erroneous, I corrected it!
