    Bird-in-Hand Family Restaurant Thanksgiving

    By Kevin Williams

Well, how about leaving all the cooking and dishes to someone else next week?  Wow, I can sometimes see the merit to that.  I mean, you actually get to visit with one another instead of having Mom pinned down by the cranberries and stuffing in the kitchen.  No dishes.  Just fully bellies and good conversation and, honestly, I'm, not so sure that the cost of eating out vs. in on Thanksgiving is that different.  So if you are going to eat Thanksgiving supper out, why not do so with an Amish flair?

Most Amish-style restaurants are closed on Thanksgiving.  Still, if you are near Yoder's Restaurant in Sarasota, consider ordering a pie...well, actually it is probably too late to order one now, but you could try.  They turn out 7,000 pies in the days before Thanksgiving each year.  Other dining options that use Amish recipes and probably some Amish cooks to prepare:

The Der Dutchman Amish-themed restaurants are all closed on Thanksgiving Day, but they do have a mighty good-sounding Thanksgiving carry-out that you can pick up the day before, see the whole menu here.
