    Easy Amish Twinkie Cake

Store-bought boxed snack cakes are not something you find very often in Amish kitchens.  Homemade snacks are the rule rather than the exception. You’ll rarely find a bag of Chips Ahoy in an Amish kitchen, you’ll instead find homemade cookies. Instead of individually wrapped snack cakes, you’ll just find homemade cake. And, really, homemade is almost always better. It's better for you, and, well, most often than not it tastes better.

There are plenty of homemade versions of store-bought snacks. We posted the recipe for Swiss Roll Cake on this website, but how about Twinkie cake? We have a recipe below for just that and it is amazing.

Now, if I could find a recipe for a homemade Ding Dong, I'd be thrilled.

My favorite....although I probably haven't eaten one in 30 years...but, man, these are so, so good.

Or perhaps a recipe for a homemade Zebra Cake.

Twinkie Cake is an Amish recipe that I have seen in many homes and Amish cookbooks. Most Amish Cooks would "cheat" on this recipe and use a box of store-bought cake mix. It just makes this whole recipe process faster. For many Amish cooks taking a store-bought product and trying to "copycat it" with a homemade version is fun and a challenge and, in the end result, is usually something quite tasty, whether that is a homemade version of KFC chicken or a copycat Pizza Hut recipe.

    .

A box of yellow cake mix is needed for this recipe, some Amish cooks would have their own homemade mix.

Of course, fried pies are an Amish specialty and closely mimic fried pies. And those Little Debbie oatmeal pies closely resemble some Amish confections out there. Milca from our Amish365 sponsor, Dutchcrafters, made this recipe for us, and it is incredible.

It's more like a Twinkie cake or one giant Twinkie, but, geez, the golden, yellowy cake looks just like the real thing!

Ah, another snack cake that should have made this list: Zingers. I used to love store-bought Zingers.

Now, without further ado, let me share this super Amish recipe with you!
