Okay, well, this is interesting. There is actually a general store in Royal Oak, Michigan. And I am sure half the people who come to this post will be searching for that. Sorry, can't help you there. But then - about 90 minutes from the city of Royal Oak - is the Royal Oak General Store, in Homerville
. Confused?
Well, I have no idea why the Amish owners decided to name the store Royal Oak General Store (I should have asked them). But regardless of what it is named, the general store - a sort of all-in-one emporium - is absolutely worth a visit.
The store is located at 27925 P-Drive S in the heart of the Homerville Amish community (aka the middle of nowhere)
Pro-Tip: Bring Cash. Lots of it. Like most Amish stores, they don't not take credit cards. They do accept checks if you still carry around a checkbook.
The Red Wing Shoe sign is huge on the outside, so, at first, thought that this was just a shoe store, but they feature lots of products inside. They do have a great selection of Red Wing shoes which are a favorite among the Amish.
Lots of work boots and work apparell.
But the store also sells utensils, lawn furniture, garden seeds, and so much more.
So, yes, if you are in central Michigan and want a classic Amish general store experience, Royal Oak General Store, which is not in Royal Oak, it's in Homer, is a great choice. The Amish staff who work there were very friendly and knowledgeable about pretty much any topic and while you are there, visit some of the other nearby Amish businesses which include a produce stand, bakery, and butcher!
