I've taken so many photos over the years and usually only a handful make it onto the website in any one post, so that means I have tons of unpublished leftover photos. Â Many of them are very good so I hate to just let them gather dust and not share.
So these are unpublished photos from the kitchens of an Amish home I visited in Aylmer, Ontario in Canada. Â Now this was unusual in the sense that these Amish had the last name of Martin, a very common Mennonite last name. Â It's a fairly common occurrence to have an Amish person convert to Mennonite, but unusual to have a Mennonite leave to become Amish. Â This Amish man converted so he could marry his bride.
I love this phone because of its pure ingenuity and resourcefulness. The stove puts off a lot of heat, why not use the heat? So they built a "drying rack" above to put boots, shoes, socs etc on that get wet from the snow so they'll dry quickly up there. Some of those towels seem a little too close to the burners for my taste.
Winters are long and cold in Aylmer, so garden plants are often seeded and started indoors before transferred to the rich soil outside.
All the utensils one needs are within reach!

Why do the Amish use plastic?
Kevin
Same reason anyone else does: convenience, cost...there's really no reason why they wouldn't use plastic...

I do occasionally do some quilt posts, I'm not the most 'crafty' person, so I don't do a lot of those type of posts here, but, welcome, Susan!

Kevin,
If you have so may extra photos, why not publish a book with your photos and a small description of what is going on in the picture? I would buy it! Thanks Sheree Hyde
Kevin
Sheree, it is not a bad idea at all...I think the only reason I wouldn't, though, is that color photo printing is super expensive, even with advances in printing technology....and especially in the small batches I'd need...I'll look into it, but I have a feeling we'd be talking a $50 book which is too much for most people.....but I will look into it, thanks for the suggestion!
