Throwback Thursday Hodgepodge: Convenience Stores, Photo, and Brown Sugar Dumplings

This is just one of these posts that I couldn't quite pull off, so I'm I'm just sort of doing this "freestyle" with a little bit in the post for everyone.

I've been writing about grocery stores the past couple of days, but what about "convenience stores", you know those "grab-n-go" type of places?  Those seem to have really exploded onto the scene when I was a kid, most of the chains seem to have been gobbled up by larger ones.  I don't know if any of these chains are still around, but does anyone remember these:

KING KWIK:   This was a chain of bright, clean convenience stores in my area...Greater Cincinnati....but were they elsewhere? Or just Cincinnati?

CONVENIENT FOOD MART:  This was a, well, convenient chain...a tiny grocery store that I can remember my Mom darting in for cottage cheese or milk.  My town used to have a couple Convenient Food Marts, but both are long gone.

STOP N GO:  I remember going to this one a lot while visiting friends in Worthington, Ohio as a kid (a Columbus suburb)...on a warm summer day we'd all walk to the "Stop N Go" to get a soda or some candy.  Are these stores still around anywhere?

WHITE VILLA:  I have very vague memories of this. I believe it was a chain and there was a "White Villa" grocer in our town,  a tiny convenience store sized place in a kind of run-down part of town.  Anyone remember White Villa?

    THROWBACK PHOTO

Not the best photo in the world, since it is a picture of a very old picture (sheesh, if the picture, though, is very old, that means I am very old)....okay, so let's just say a picture of a vintage picture. Yea, I like that better.  My brother and me on the first day of school in 1976.  We were living overseas in the United Arab Emirates at the time (my Dad worked in international sales)....not sure about that 70s attire!

MJ, thanks for that info...Even though it was way too far for me to go to, it was kind of neat having a Food Lion so close, so I'm sad to hear that. And, wow, about Town and Country....That was a nice store, do you know where they went and why?

I remember the Stop And Go stores and I grew up in Worthington ! We called them "Stop And Rob" due to the fact that they were robbed so much. I also remember Dairy Mart and Lawson's stores. Lawson's had the best chipped ham which you can still buy in most Giant Eagle stores in the deli. It's called Isley's ham. Thanks for the memories

Yes, Lisa, Dairy Mart, that was another that should have made my list...We would always walk to the Stop N Go right on High Street (near the Longfellow/Larrimer Road area)
